So here’s a quick round-up of some of the recent, bizarre new stories where air conditioning plays a supporting role:
Man Needs Air Conditioning, So He Drives Truck Through House
Senoia, Ga. resident John Paul Jones, Jr. was so upset after a phone conversation he had with his wife, that he did what any reasonable person would do. He hopped in his truck and drove it through his house.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt, and his Chevy truck suffered only a broken light, a flat tire, and a few scratches.
Standing outside his smashed home, he told television station CBS46 that when police came to ask him what the heck he was doing, “I told them I needed air conditioning. They said, ‘open a window.’ I told them it wasn’t enough. As you can see, I had a nice breeze.”
The police said Jones wouldn’t be charged with a crime, because there is nothing illegal about driving a truck through your own house.
Suicidal Man Throws Air Conditioning Parts At Police
In Roseville, Calif., just north of the rail yard, police encountered a man pacing about in an agitated manner on the roof of a business. When the officers tried to talk him down, he became enraged, making suicidal comments. He ripped pieces of the air conditioning unit off and hurled them at the police.
Firefighters who arrived on the scene came up with a solution to get the man down safely. They sprayed an arc of water over the shirtless man, hoping he would become soggy and cold enough to give up his defiant stand.
After about 90 minutes of soaking, the man came down at 4:30 a.m. and was taken into custody. He was identified as 35-year-old Kenneth Charles Steele.
